De Groot Peel National Park

A fascinating wetland and heathland with half-thatched building and excellent facilities for access to watch wildlife. The ground water monitor showed that the dry spell had depleted the level into the red or danger zone.
Amazing populations of dragonflies and loud quacking frogs. Best bird species was red backed shrike.
Texel, one of the Netherlands’ northern islands.

Very impressed by the regular modern ferry, even though we missed it both ways by one minute!
Black headed gull and little tern worked the turbulence following the boat.
We went for evening walks to the ‘fuglelboulevard’ on the east side and the lagoons on the south. Great birds. Breeding spoonbill, swimming black necked grebe, a red kite at the campsite. We must make more time for another visit.
